Hordes of people thronged Lilongwe’s new entertainment joint Mbowe Park for an Independence Day free gig.

The park started swelling as early as noon and, by 4pm, it bust into a scene of action.lucius

A dose of Lambani Dube, Lulu, Nepman, Sam Smak and the aging, but evergreen Lucius Banda, was all the fans needed for musical fun.

As fans mercilessly drained bottles of their favourite beverages, the artists jumped on stage for performances.

For over three hours, Soldier was the captain and he efficiently steered the ship until it docked at 8pm.

The legend took fans on a trip down memory lane as he performed songs from most of his albums released in a career spanning over three decades.

What was more entertaining for the fans was the startling energy accompanying Soldier’s singing and dancing as itnever, at any point sapped, his body.

Being hefty is mainly characterised with lack of fitness or even laziness. But at intervals, he joined Zembani Band dancing crew for some gyrating sessions that left nothing to imagination as he swayed to the fast pace of some of his modified songs.

The award-winning artist’s distinct, energetic choreographed moves, coupled by his impeccable voice intonation, kept many glued to the stage.

His band also managed to hook the audience’s attention with their splendid rhythm and dance. Apart from displaying various dance moves, one of his male dancers stole the show as he mimicked a crippled man’s move.

The crowd cheered him on, some even attempting to copy his dance moves.

And Soldier, who never looked tired, left the audience begging for more before Lulu took over.

The show was organised by Mbowe Park in honour of their patrons.

The park started astiny stopover summer huts for those wishing to quench their thirst or treat the throats to some cool drinks.

Slowly, the place became a hive for revelers and even for those that love car boot binges. It has now grown into a huge park, accommodating thousands of people for open door events.
